What is neuropsychology?

Neuropsychology is a specialty within the field of psychology focused on integrating knowledge about brain development and organization to understand and describe an individual’s cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Through administration of standardized evaluation procedures, neuropsychologists provide a clearer understanding of an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in order to offer recommendations for educational, vocational, and intervention planning.

All Neuropsychological evaluations consist of 4 Phases:

  • An in-person initial consultation/intake to discuss the client’s history and presenting concerns

  • An individualized evaluation based on the reasons for referral

  • The neuropsychologist generates a comprehensive written report

  • Parents/Caregivers return for a face-to-face feedback to discuss the findings and recommendations from the evaluation. Children and Adolescents are encouraged to come in for a modified, age-appropriate version of the results
